All of my studies in my lifetime took place in and around Ghent. From a teenager studying Latin and math to an adolescent student getting his academic bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Finally, I made the decision to follow the master program of biomedical engineering and ended up doing a PHD at the same group that had taught me the previous years. Considering the need for signal processing expertise in my current work, we teamed up with professor Madhu’s group.
I am working on the InSiDe-project ( https://www.inside-h2020.eu/ ). Within this project a consortium of international and specialized partners are developing and assembling prototypes of a new clinical device. This device measures the vibrations of the skin via laser-doppler vibrometry at measurement sites above the main arteries like the carotid and femoral artery. These measurements result in time series of displacement in function of time. At this point I come in and try to get the required and other interesting, physiologically relevant information out of the data using a multitude of signal processing techniques.
I am a born and bred Ghentian with an astute sense of pride in my city. I was a scout and subsequently scoutmaster for the first 24 years of my life but now my attention and energy is spent elsewhere. I enjoy electronic music and live performances in general. My sport of choice is kickboxing, something I am still trying to improve in.
